One of the best ways to offset rising travel costs is to get creative with redemptions and how you are booking travel.
This valuable offer, which is ending April 13, is a good example.
For a limited-time, you can earn 75,000 bonus miles on the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card after $4,000 in spending on purchases in the first three months, plus a bonus $250 Capital One Travel credit to use in your first year as a cardholder.
When used through the Capital One Travel portal, the miles and the credit combined are worth up to $1,000 in travel.
But there’s a way you can get even more value out of these miles. Let me break it down:
Redeem in the Capital One Travel portal for up to $1,000 in travel
This offer is worth up to $1,000 in travel when used directly in the Capital One Travel portal: Miles are worth 1 cent apiece when redeemed against any travel charges you put on the card, or when booking flights or hotels through Capital One Travel. (Not bad for a card that charges a modest $95 annual fee.)
Two of the best perks of booking this way are price drop protection and a price match guarantee. Capital One will monitor the price of a flight for 10 days after you book in the portal and automatically issue a credit if the price drops. If you find a lower price within 24 hours of booking, you can file a claim with Capital One and receive 100% of the price difference as a travel credit if your claim is eligible.
Stretch your miles with transfer partners for up to $1,638 in value
If, like me, you want to stretch the value of those miles even further, you can transfer those miles to any of the hotel or airline programs that partner with Capital One.
This brings the value of your miles to 1.85 cents each, according to TPG’s April 2026 valuations, which gives you up to $1,638 in total value from the bonus miles and travel credit.
Here are a few of my favorite redemptions that can save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars:
- Book lie-flat business-class seats from the U.S. to Europe starting at 60,000 miles each way, plus taxes and fees, using Air France-KLM Flying Blue.
- Transfer to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, where you can find lie-flat Upper Class seats to the U.K. for as little as 29,000 points plus taxes and fees each way.
- Award seats to Japan from North America on Japan Airlines are 27,000 miles in economy, 40,000 miles in premium economy and 55,000 miles in business class each way with reasonable taxes, fees and carrier-imposed surcharges.
Bottom line
Whether you’re newer to points and miles, you prefer a straightforward earning structure, or you use it as part of a wider earning strategy like me, this offer is great because of the flexibility it offers to cover all sorts of travel.
This versatile travel card could be a great addition to your points-earning strategy, and the value of this offer is a no-brainer with a low annual fee, so don’t miss out on this limited-time offer that ends on April 13.
Have a great weekend,
BK
