Here at TPG, we are always thinking about travel credit cards and how to maximize points and miles to make our travel dreams a reality. So, when we select the Premium Credit Card of the Year for the annual TPG Awards, you know it stands the test of some fierce competition.
Taking the prize this year was the American Express Platinum Card®.
The Amex Platinum is packed with swanky travel perks like lounge access and hotel elite status; statement credits for airline incidental fees, Clear+, select hotels, shopping and digital entertainment; and much more (enrollment is required for select benefits).
And there's a new way to check your eligibility (with no impact on your credit score) and see if you qualify for an offer as high as 175,000 points on the American Express Platinum Card.
Points are awarded after you spend $12,000 on purchases on the card within the first six months of card membership. Welcome offers vary, and you may not be eligible for an offer, especially if you have received a welcome offer on this card in the past, but there's no harm in checking.
With TPG valuing Membership Rewards points at 2 cents apiece in our March 2026 valuations, your welcome offer could be worth a whopping $3,500!
Some of my favorite redemptions with my Amex Membership Rewards points have been for lie-flat business-class seats to Europe with Air France-KLM Flying Blue for 60,000 miles and for short domestic flights on American Airlines for 5,000 British Airways Avios. They're even great for hotel stays with Hilton or Marriott, especially with occasional transfer bonuses.
With welcome offers as high as 175,000 Membership Rewards points, I'd say it's an award-winning offer on an award-winning card.
